BRIDGERCARE – POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title:  Nurse Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Supervisor functions in a management role for the nursing and medical assistant staff.  The Nurse Supervisor facilitates successful models of quality service delivery and continuous quality improvement. The Nurse Supervisor participates in patient care by delivering high quality reproductive and related health assessment, triage and education of patients per Title X and local medical protocols. The Nurse Supervisor is under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director and general supervision of the Executive Director.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates with the Medical Director & Executive Director to design and implement initial training and orientation to policies and procedures for all new nursing and medical assistant (MA) staff, students and volunteers. Regularly evaluates and provides training to advance clinical skills, providing appropriate coaching and learning opportunities when necessary.
  2. Works with the Medical Director to design and oversee development of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines for appropriate patient care and for quality improvement programming.
  3. Communicates regularly with all nursing/MA staff informally and during meetings to convey information. Works with the Medical Director and Executive Director to facilitate regular nursing/MA meeting
  4. Ensures effective functioning of all CLIA-waived lab equipment and standardization of work processes and staff training so that lab tests are performed accuratel
  5. Coordinates nursing/medical assistant work schedules with input from the Administrative Team.
  6. Engages in active problem solving to improve patient care on a regular bas
  7. Works to unite all clinical team members through training, standardization, and creating a culture of teamwork focused on patient-centered care and system improvement.
  8. Provide patient focused assessments that include appropriate vitals, history taking, documentation, medications and tests under approved Standing Orders, local protocols and Title X guidelines.
  9. Work collaboratively with team members including mid-level Providers, Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, and other support staff to implement the patient care.
  10. Identify and triage patient needs in the clinic and by phone.
  11. Provide intake, pre or post exam or procedure instructions and counseling, phlebotomy, and assist in procedures (insertion or removal of contraceptive implants or IUDs, colposcopy, ultrasound, LEEP).
  12. Perform pregnancy testing and comprehensive, unbiased options counseling per Title X requirements.
  13. Clearly document findings, plan of care, and follow-up in Bridgercare’s electronic health record system and continually observe privacy standards for logging in and out of the system and closing patient charts.
  14. Meet the Montana Board of Nursing Continuing Education requirement for licensure and participate in training to expand the RN base of knowledge for reproductive and related healthcare.
  15. Participate in staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  16. Ability to report to work as scheduled and work a flexible schedule when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program with current Montana licensure.
  • Preferred two years of reproductive and/or community and public health nursing experience.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Required minimum 2 years management experience in healthcare setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires some physical exertion such as bending, lifting, and physically supporting patients.
  • Requires manual dexterity to perform skills listed in this job description.
  • Requires ability to hear heart and lung sounds.
  • Requires ability to see to perform physical assessments and interventions.
