IUDs are small, T-shaped pieces of plastic that get inserted into the uterus. There is one non-hormonal IUD (ParaGard) and three hormonal IUDs (Mirena, Kyleena, and LILLETA) that Bridgercare offers. The ParaGard is made of copper and can last up to 12 years. Mirena lasts up to 8 years, Kyleena lasts up to 5 years, and LILLETA lasts up to 7 years.

HORMONAL: Mirena, Kyleena, LILLETA, and Skyla prevent pregnancy by thickening cervical mucous creating a barrier between sperm which prevents sperm from fertilizing an egg and thins the uterine lining.

NON-HORMONAL: The copper on the Paragard IUD changes the environment of the uterus preventing sperm from fertilizing an egg.
