You’re Not Overreacting! When a Doctor Visit is the Right Call

By: Zoe Pyfer

It’s not always obvious when to see a doctor- sometimes we may not feel like our worries are enough to justify a visit to the doctor or we’re concerned about what other people might think. While it’s normal to worry about these, it’s also okay to go to the doctor if you want to check your health. To help validate your concerns, we’ve compiled a list of valid reasons to go to the doctor that you might think aren’t legit!

Preventative Care

Preventative care allows us to catch a disease or health problem early- allowing many health issues that are treated best (or only) early to be resolved effectively. While you may feel like it’s insignificant or groundless, going to the doctor even when nothing is seriously wrong is a healthy and responsible thing to do! What’s even better? Most health insurance covers one Annual Wellness Exam per calendar year!

Your Mental Health

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If your mental health is impacting your ability to function in any aspect of your life, it may be time to check in with your doctor. While it may seem impossible, your doctor can help provide you with options for treatment and support.

Menstrual Problems or Unexpected Changes

When your period is affecting your daily life, or if it becomes irregular or nonexistent, it’s probably time to schedule an appointment. Many people believe their menstrual pain or irregularities are normal or not a real reason to go to see their doctor, but it’s important to see your doctor if you’re noticing anything bothersome or unusual.

Infertility issues

1 in every 6 reproductive age adults in the world will experience infertility at some point in their life. Fertility services are typically very expensive and are often not covered by insurance, making it incredibly challenging for the average person to access affordable infertility care. At Bridgercare, we offer infertility services including evaluation for possible causes (all genders), Intrauterine Insemination, oral ovulation induction, and referral to specialty care, if needed, and at a lower cost than other places in our area! If you are experiencing fertility issues, it is totally vaild to come to Bridgercare to find out how we can help!

Final thoughts

Seeing the doctor should not be a shameful or embarrassing experience. Even when nothing is out of the ordinary, you can and should go to the doctor. Getting checked out can bring you peace of mind and let you go back to living your regular life.
